One of the study programs in Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Madiun had made a big move by giving rise to a call for papers Seminar for the first time in Madiun. Saturday, April 14th, 2018 was a busy morning for the committee of the first call for papers seminar in Madiun known as LILITRANS (The National Conference on Linguistics, Literature, and Translation). Taking place at the conference rooms of The Sun Hotel Madiun, LILITRANS was held. No less than 70 participants and 3 keynote speakers were joining this pioneer event to be held in Madiun.

The three keynote speakers for each field are the best one Indonesia has ever had. Acting as the linguistics expert, Prof. Dr. Djatmika, MA from Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta was invited to explain his paper entitled “Skills for Performing Intercultural Interaction: A Multimodal Perspective”. The keynote speaker for literature field was Dra. A. B. Sri Mulyani, M. A., Ph. D. from Universitas Sanata Dharma who present “(De)Gendering Public and Private Divide in Language and Literature: A Feminist Perspective on Western Critical Tradition”. Then, Prof. Drs. M. R. Nababan, M. Ed., M. A., Ph. D. from Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta was invited to present his research on translation field entitled “Competence in Interlingual Communication”. After delivering the passionate presentation of their researches, the discussion session was started giving the chance to all attendee to ask, ensure, and deliver their ideas dealing with the topics. Because of the enthusiasm of all participants, the discussion session run longer than the expected duration.

Besides the keynote speakers, LILITRANS had also invited those who are interested in the field of linguistics, literature and translation whether they are lecturer, researcher, undergraduate student, post graduate student or doctoral student to present their research. They were coming from various universities in some cities in Java. To mention all of them, there are participants from Universitas Indonesia (UI) Jakarta, Universitas Gajah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Universitas Sanata Dharma Yogyakarta, Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Semarang, Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) Semarang, Universitas Jendral Soedirman (Unsoed) Purwokerto, Universitas Panca Marga Probolinggo, Universitas Airlangga (Unair) Surabaya, Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya, Universitas Madura, IAIN Ponorogo, and STAIN Ponorogo. Not only from universities, one of the participants was from Sekolah Tinggi Bahasa Asing (STIBA) that is STIBA Satya Widya Surabaya. Totally, the seminar which was held from 7 AM until 5 PM were attended by 55 presenters and 15 participants joining LILITRANS.

The tremendous response given by all the attendees after the event was courage for all committee to hold such an event with even a better performance. This event held successfully because of the hard work of all committees with the eager help from English study program’s students, and many helps from the hotel’s staffs.
